A Humble Heart

I was at a friend's house the other day and we were reading poetry and I really liked this one. It's by Alfred Norris.

I would not ask Thee that my days
Should flow quite smoothly on and on
Lest I should learn to love the world
Too well, ere all my time is done

I would not ask Thee that my work
Should never bring me pain nor fear,
Lest I should learn to work alone,
And never wish Thy presence near.

I would not ask Thee that my friends
Should always kind and constant be,
Lest I should learn to lay my faith
In them alone, and not in Thee.

But I would ask a humble heart,
A changeless will to work and wake,
A firm faith in Thy providence;
The res-'tis Thine to give or take.

Joy

“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.”

~ 1 Peter 12-13

Often times our joy changes with our circumstances. If our day is going well, we are happy. If not, we are sad or even depressed. As Christians our joy should be founded on who we are in Christ. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying being sad is a sin. It is completely legitimate. Jesus wept over Lazarus’ death even though he knew he would raise him from the dead. Jesus says in Matthew 26:38 to his disciples when he’s in Gethsemane, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.” Jesus never sinned so it cannot be wrong to weep. What I am saying, though, is that our ultimate, life penetrating joy should not be found in our circumstances. It should flow from a realization of who God is, what He’s done for us and who we are as a result. If we find ourselves struggling in obtaining this kind of joy, we should ask ourselves what we are focusing on, our trials or our Savior.

Joy is also a choice that we make. Because we believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus, we have the power to turn from sin and toward righteousness. It is completely unnatural for us to rejoice in trials. rather it is easier to complain and question God’s goodness. But God has overcome our sin nature. He is the king over all the world and he has conquered sin completely. He has broken its power over our lives so we no longer have to give in to it. It is because of this that we can rejoice even though our circumstances may be worse than we want them to be.

A Poem

There's substance that's casting these shadows
There's reason behind all this pain
All gold is made pure by refining
And plants cannot grow without rain

He's promised to hold you and keep you
He's told you that he's always there
His Word says He'll never forsake you
Or test you past what you can bear

So trust in Him all through this darkness
Hold fast to the truth of His Word
Be certain of His gracious promise
And rest in Christ Jesus our Lord

For one day all pain shall be broken
Renewed shall be joy that was lost
All death, pain and fear have been conquered
Because of His death on the cross

Reflections

A little fun with prisms. :)

The bottom spoon isn't really there.

This is the glare in the TV.

I know this isn't really a reflection, but I liked the pic.
As always please comment. :)

So, my next series in photography class was Corners. :) (Hence the title) I have to warn you that most of my pictures will probably be very abstract/random.

So, I'm taking a photography class and I decided to do series of pictures for home work so I won't get bored too quickly. (I want you to guess what this series is.) I'd love feedback!
